What Is a Pandemic? According to the World Health Organization, a pandemic is “the worldwide spread of a new disease.” Generally, the pathogen (which is the virus or bacterium causing the disease) infects people in one part of the world and spreads to many other parts of the world sometimes infecting millions and even billions of people.
Consequently, a pandemic, which may result not only in widespread illness but in large-scale deaths as well, can totally disrupt how and/or whether your organization is able to conduct business as usual. Pandemics may result in the following:
Slowed supply chains
Mass closings of businesses and schools
Restricted travel
Weak economies
Hysteria and confusion
Misinformation
Understandably, many people experience heightened anxiety and fear when faced with the reality of a pandemic. Nevertheless, there are steps that you can take to minimize the disruption that you, your organization and/or family may experience.
Why have a preparedness plan? The threat of a disease spreading across the globe should be taken seriously. There are real, actionable things you and your team can do to minimize the impact a pandemic might have on your organization and those you care about. Are you prepared?
Take a self-survey to understand what your current state looks like.
You need visual instructions to keep your employees safe. Visual management provides ongoing reminders to enforce social distancing. It is an additional communication style to show your employees you care.
Your employees are your most valuable assets, and just like your family, you want to keep them safe. Demonstrate your commitment to their well-being by providing them the resources, the information and the knowledge they deserve to reduce their risk and exposure while being at their place of work.
